 Ariel Stevenson talk today in Gender Studies!

Ariel on her work: "In my dissertation, I  consider cases across TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and the now-defunct Vine to investigate how Black women and  girls have contributed to the broader culture, syntax and visual language of the Internet from 2008 to the present. My  research analyzes memes, videos, and caption posts to explore how people, Black or not, “pass” through a deep  knowledge and masterful utilization of Black cultural logics. I introduce digital iconology, as a necessary analytical  tool to interpret racialized signs in audiovisual media online."
